Kobe, Hyogo, Japan
I have received MD in 1992 and PhD in 1999 from the School of Medicine at Kobe University. In parallel, I also worked as a research fellow at Department of Urology, University of Virginia, USA, from 1996 to 1998. In 2001, I was appointed as Assistant Professor at Graduate School of Medicine, Kobe University (Dept. of Urology, and International Center for Medical Research) and was promoted to Associate Professor (Center for Infectious Disease, Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine) since 2005. In 2010, I received appointments as the Director of the Division of Translational Research for Biologics, Graduate School of Medicine and the Division of Infectious Disease Control, Graduate School of Health Science, and I have been holding the Professorship at Kobe University from 2015. Since 2016, I have been directing the Laboratory of Translational Research for Biologics, Division of Advanced Medical Science, Kobe University Graduate School of Science, Technology and Innovation. Over the course of my academic career, my area of research has been in Research and Development of Biologics for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases for more than 25 years. During this time period, I have witnessed a growing need of “translation” from basic research (bench) to clinical (bed) in the area of biologics. Many innovative biotechnology products currently routinely used in clinical practice came from discovery efforts at academia and I strongly believe that academic research continues to generate promising leads. To facilitate “bridging” of innovative discoveries from academia to industry, the Division of Translational Research for Biologics was established at Graduate School of Science, Technology and Innovation, Kobe University in 2016. Our mission is to serve patients through innovation and collaboration.
