Responsibilities: ‣ Reliability of the Search service used on all Amazon sites and partner sites. ‣ Project ownership of engineering initiatives from inception. ‣ Diagnose and mitigate critical failures in high pressure situations. ‣ Collaborate with other engineering teams to deliver on business growth initiatives and efficiency improvements. ‣ Lead operational excellence across several service teams that form Amazon Search. ‣ Perform troubleshooting deep-dives on system and application issues, driving root cause resolution. ‣ Develop tools to automate manual processes or improve existing frameworks.
Cloud Support Engineer focused on Big Data services: EMR, DynamoDB, Kinesis, AWS Elasticsearch, Data Pipeline and Athena. Main functions: ‣ Troubleshoot problems and performance issues on customers’ EMR clusters, with Hadoop, HDFS or any supported application, such as Hive, Spark, Tez, Presto and others. ‣ Deliver customized solutions to our customers, sometimes writing workarounds or patches to fix software issues. ‣ Assist with architectural advice and provide best practices not only using AWS Big Data platform, but also within Hadoop and its ecosystem. ‣ Drive customer communication and work with development teams to improve AWS services. ‣ Participate in internal projects to develop tools for improving our daily work and customers’ support experience. ‣ As an internally certified EMR subject matter expert, I acted as point of contact for questions and escalations regarding EMR and Hadoop related issues, as well as providing training and mentoring to other engineers in the team.
