    Mar 2021 - Nov 2021 · 9 mos

I am a founder on Carbon13’s Venture Builder for the climate crisis. During this eight month programme, a cohort of 50 founders form co-founding teams to build a high growth venture with the potential to reduce CO2e emissions by 10 million tonnes. Based in the Cambridge ecosystem of academia, entrepreneurship, and research, Carbon13 selects founders from diverse backgrounds with deep technical expertise or an impressive track record in entrepreneurship or in one of our target sectors. Founders join as individuals without a startup or even an idea, and Carbon13 supports them to build a dream team, explore the most meaningful opportunities, and transition technical ideas into a commercial success. At the four month stage, successful teams receive an investment of £75,000.

  • CTO & Cofounder at Pact Coffee
    Aug 2013 - Apr 2016 · 2 yrs 9 mos

Pact is a fresh coffee delivery service. Sourcing coffee directly from dozens of farms around the world, we roast and grind the beans in London before shipping them through your letterbox. Pact ensures you never run out of the coffee you love, with Coffee Wingmen on hand to make sure every cup is the best you've ever made. Established that the product roadmap was a monthly moving target. To avoid the dangers of planning too far ahead and making the most of opportunities we can affect, I lead a monthly review of short term goals. This encouraged cross functional collaboration, as the business grew. Removed myself as a bottleneck from the development pipeline, by empowering the team to make decisions, while knowing mistakes will be caught early and they are safe to learn from it. Expended the team through proactive hiring. Bringing on engineers, product owners, business intelligence and user experience to the team. Being the guardian of the agile framework, I provide leadership in Agile/Scrum concepts and principles, leading a team to self organise. Acted as the facilitator of reason and authority, and made the tough calls. Introduced Raspberry Pi’s into the operations workflow to automate repetitive, error prone tasks. This increased our throughput by 50%. Enabling us to horizontally scale our operations. Increased customer activation rate 40%, by testing an initiative where we welcome a customer by calling them, just to say hello. Scaled the initiative by building a solution that made callers effective. Scaled the culture of a small startup, from a team of 6 to 70. To ensure that everyone was close to the customers and product, every new employee was encouraged to spend time in customer service, talking to customers, and in operations, packing and distributing coffee. Launched the development of a native mobile app with a contractor. Managed the project from idea to launch, where we increased monthly revenue per user by 30%
