Tony Hoyting grew up in Drenthe, in the north of the Netherlands. At young age he started taking drum lessons, later on he started playing the piano at home and taking piano lessons. In 2002 he started following a preliminary course in classical percussion and in 2006 the Young Talent Class Percussion Classical Music at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Netherlands. At the same time, he was taking piano lessons from Bernard Venema and Cas Straatman. In 2007 he chose for the piano when he was admitted to the first year of the Jazz Piano studies at the Prince Claus Conservatoire. Here he studied with Jasper Soffers, Marc van Roon, David Berkman and Michael Moore. He also followed lessons with Wolfert Brederode, Bob Wijnen, Anne-Guus Teerhuis and Rembrandt Frerichs. He graduated in June 2011. Tony Hoyting is playing in many small combos, as well as in larger ensembles like the award-winning big band Stageband from Groningen for which he is also writing music (e.g. ‘Samba Azul’, recorded on ‘Journey to the Heart’, 2014). Besides that, he has arranged for Want2Swing Big Band and the Noordpool Orchestra. Tony Hoyting has played together with Judy Niemack, Don Braden, Freddie Bryant, the Mingus Big Band, Tineke Postma, Benny Golson, Frits Landesbergen, Nicolas Thys, Josee Koning, Eric Vloeimans, Ben van Gelder, Nancy Marano, Anne-Lie Persson, Lydia van Dam, Maria Mendes, Iris Kroes, Renée van Wegberg, Davine, Ad Colen, Humphrey Campbell, Martijje, Paulien van Schaik, Vincent Koning, Joris Teepe, Ellen ten Damme, Izaline Calister, SaraLee Vos, Owen Hart Jr., Noord Nederlandse Dans, Want2Swing, het Noordpool Orkest and many others.
Dutch Steely Dan tribute band, playing repertoire from Steely Dan and Donald Fagen solo albums. This band consists of the best musicians from the north of the Netherlands and is one of the few Steely Dan tributes that have the same line-up as the Steely Dan live band, consisting of 14 members!
