I always want to be contributing in a very practical way to the success of the business, through software engineering. I am proud of the fact that software which I have designed and written large chunks off is used in making tens of millions of phone calls and sending tens of millions of short messages every day. I just want to go on designing and writing software which is profitable and which I can see is being used and appreciated in the real world. I also want to go on helping others in my team do the same. The times when the job is most rewarding is when I work in an expanding, optimistic team full of good people with a clear, believable strategy for how to make the software, and the business, successful.
One of two developers who added telephony protocols support to the MARIXX product. I also have a leading role developing telephony services for MATRIXX including voice, SMS and location services. I have been very impressed by the talented work force at MATRIXX and by the calm, polite, collaborative culture. MATRIXX is a great company to work for.
Initially, making a major contribution to getting a new start up, G8 Labs, off to a flying start. (G8 Labs was taken over by eServGlobal which then sold a large chunk of itself to Oracle. So, I did not change jobs between joining G8 and joining MATRIXX.) Designing, writing, unit testing and supporting intelligent network software and other telecommunications software. Technical leadership of small teams of developers. Training new graduates and helping them to become first class software engineers. Providing help and advice to colleagues world wide. Tracking down and fixing a few thousand bugs.
