The École the Guerre (War College) in Paris, France is the French equivalent of the ”Dutch Advanced Command and Staff Course (HDV)”. The war college focusses on (military) International Cooperation and many political, economic issues are discussed. I had the opportunity to study and work together with colleagues coming from 67 Nationalities regarding military, political and economic topics. This study helped me to prepare myself for future top positions within the Dutch Ministry of Defence. Result of the École de Guerre is a certificate as ’’expert de la défense en management, commandement et stratégie’’.
NAHEMA is the NATO agency being the focal point for all participating Nations regarding the NH90 helicopter. In this multinational environment I was responsible for: - NH90 Hardening (EMC, Biological and Chemical protection, Nuclear resistance, red/black wiring), - NH90 GFE (Government Furnished Equipment’s and Items) - NH90 airworthiness qualification (for the Dutch, French and Norwegian versions of the NH90. As the chairman of multiple international committees regarding these topics I was responsible the harmonization of the positions of all participating Nations and performing the discussion with the industrial partners. During this job I worked intensively with representatives from all participating Nations (NLD, FRA, GER, ITA, PRT, and BEL) and with several industrial partners such as: - Fokker Industries, Netherlands - Eurocopter Germany - Eurocopter France - Agusta Westland, Italy - NLR, Netherlands Although the Agency was located in France, the official language was English.
At the Defense Material Organisation of the Dutch Minsitry of Defense I worked at the design and development of new navy ships. - For the OPV (Ocean goiing Patrol Vessel), I was responsible for the design of the combined Bridge-CIC (command Information Centre) and for the basic layout of the integrated computer system. - Furthermore I was projectleader for smaller projects related to modernisation of Walrus class submarines and LCF class fregates. For this job I worked intensively together with CAMS, TNO and ADEAS.
At the Weapons and Command Systems department of the DMO I was responsible for the coordination of multiple project officers regarding their inputs for: - PAM project. Modernisation of 16 Mine Hunting Vessels (with Belgium) - New hydrographical vessels - New LCF frigates During this job I worked intensively with the Belgium Navy and with industrial partners; STN Atlas in Germany, Thales Underwater systems in France, Thales, Imtech and Damen Shipyards in The Netherlands.
