Tom founded Amodal in 2020 to solve a problem he’d seen across every contractor, consultant and asset owner he’d worked with: critical project information trapped in spreadsheets, scattered across platforms, and impossible to trust at the point of decision. With 15 years across civil engineering, site delivery, BIM and digital consulting — including roles at Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke and HDR — he saw the same pattern repeat: organisations investing in CDEs and digital tools but still struggling to find, verify and govern their information. Amodal now works with contractors, developers and asset owners to implement information management strategies aligned with ISO 19650, the Building Safety Act and wider digital standards. The business delivers CDE procurement, configuration and managed services alongside two proprietary products: endev-o, a structured data platform replacing spreadsheet-based workflows, and Verity, an AI-powered document compliance checking agent. Tom’s focus is on making information management practical, auditable and valuable — not theoretical.
I lead a team of ~15 delivering information management services across the built environment. Amodal is ISO 9001, 14001 and 27001 certified, working with clients including McLaren Construction, Laing O’Rourke, British Land, GPE, UKIFS and Sovereign Network Group. We provide CDE procurement, configuration and managed services — platform-agnostic except for our own products. endev-o is our structured data platform, replacing spreadsheet-based workflows with governed, auditable data management. Verity is our AI-powered compliance checking agent, built to verify documents against project requirements. Our work is shaped by ISO 19650, the Building Safety Act and the golden thread of information — helping clients meet evolving regulatory requirements while making their information management practical and auditable. The business was founded on a simple insight: people spend over 20% of their working week searching for information they believe they already have.
Advised clients and contractors on digital strategy and implementation across the built environment. Led workstreams around people change, process development and technology adoption, including BIM and information management procedures, systems architecture mapping, and standards alignment to ISO 19650 and BS 1192. Also developed Smart City roadmapping and created online learning programmes to support organisations transitioning to digital ways of working.
Joined as Digital Engineer and progressed to Senior Digital Engineer (BIM), working across multiple multi-discipline projects at various contract stages. Produced project-specific Execution Plans and LOD documentation, carried out model audits using Solibri, ran coordination checks in Navisworks, and produced 4D sequences and analysis in Synchro. Focused on upskilling site teams, demonstrating value to clients through data-led engagement, and ensuring compliance with BS 1192 and client-specific specifications.
Joined the Balfour Beatty Engineering Graduate Scheme, progressing through a series of placements across pre-construction, strategic development, design and site delivery. Managed the SSE Framework OHLT tender as Bid Manager, chaired the Next Generation Stakeholder Panel to scrutinise and steer the company’s sustainability activities, and led a group-wide review of standardised site inductions, presenting findings to senior management. Delivered site works on a 275kV OHLT refurbishment project in the Scottish Highlands, and worked in the structural design office on tower strengthening schemes and temporary works. Also supported the development of the integrated Power T&D market vertical across Balfour Beatty’s operating companies.
Sponsored by Balfour Beatty throughout MEng in Civil Engineering at the University of Exeter, working during summer breaks across site engineering, design and innovation. Gained experience in overhead line construction, structural design from first principles, and safety-related product development from concept through to manufacturing.
