The consumer electronics market is moving ahead at record speeds, this is generating a lot of new technologies, ideas and possibilities. In my new function I'm on a never ending quest to find these technologies and look how we can integrate them into industrial products. This so we can make better and innovative solutions for our clients.
As R&D Embedded software engineer I create the software that runs in small microchips. This can be a simple application such as a thermostat or a complex application such as a motor controller with WiFi connectivity. I specifically chose this job because I was intrigued by the diversity of real world products that are based on this technology. You have to control a lot of custom IO (displays, sensor, motors …), write bare metal code and work around the typical constraints of a micro-controller. This is what makes embedded software for me far more interesting than traditional computer software.
