If it has to do with informative and persuasive communications (spoken or published, creative or business), I've probably done it. My diverse background includes: five years as a professional actor (stage, TV commercials, etc.); 12 years as an award-winning writer and Editor-in-Chief for 10 national business magazines; 20 years as Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kulture Kids, a non-profit that brings the arts to children; and one year as Marketing Communications Manager at a Big Four firm. Named AMERICA'S BEST BOSS OF 1998, I'm looking for that next opportunity to produce stellar work. Specialties: Branding and identity, arts and education, writing and editing.
Supervise/manage all day-to-day activities of non-profit serving the education industry (schools, early childhood centers, youth groups, community centers, etc.). Write grants, handle operations (fulfillment, PR, marketing, budget, purchasing, hiring of artists, client service and communications, etc., Website management).
Marketing Communications Manager in the knowledge management division (called the Center for Business Knowledge). Developed and distributed deliverables for the firm's Lotus Notes-based intranet (called the KWeb). Increased awareness of firm's many knowledge management tools for 140,000 global employees and, by extension, the firm's many clients.
Editor-in-Chief of national business publications serving the advertising specialty industry (THE COUNSELOR, ADVANTAGES, and IMPRINT magazines). Two of them won Apex Awards for Most Improved Magazine of 1998. Also served as Director of Communications for the company, managing 15 staff members.
Editor-in-Chief of national career magazines serving the engineering, nursing, and MBA fields (Minority Nurse, Minority MBA, Computer & Engineering Horizons, Graduating Engineer, and MS/PhD magazines). Successfully relaunched magazines' editorial look and content (design/voice/focus/calendars/contributors/Board of Advisors) in preparation for sale to another company.
Wrote and edited industry-leading national business magazines serving the education administrator market (Senior Editor at SCHOOL & COLLEGE, circulation 60,000; Editor-in-Chief at EARLY CHILDHOOD NEWS, circulation 55,000). Earned Press Club of Cleveland Award in 1990 for work at SCHOOL & COLLEGE. Completely redesigned and relaunched EARLY CHILDHOOD NEWS, converting from product tabloid to standard business magazine, earning Educational Press Association of America Award in 1996.
