Winner of MIT's Hacking Medicine; passionate about real world outcomes from medical innovation. CEO of Nazata Bio, a digital therapeutics company tackling high blood pressure, the #1 cause of heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure worldwide. Developed the national COVID-19 Critical Care Index, a clinical risk tool used to alert teams of deteriorating patients and predict ICU bed demand. This was subsequently deployed nationally by the HSE, Ireland's national health service in April 2020. Worked in Royal College of Surgeon's prestigious INCA Group. Previously completed academic track intern year in Beaumont Hospital working in the specialties of orthopaedics, respiratory medicine/academia, gastroenterology and nephrology. Conducted an intercalated MSc in Bioengineering with research focusing on developing an early detection system for asthma exacerbations to facilitate earlier and more effective treatment paradigms. Awarded first prize in MIT's Hacking Medicine 2016 European event, for the development of a mobile platform for facilitating neurorehabilitation in stroke patients. Research post focusing on employing machine learning methods to create an early detection system for asthma exacerbations to facilitate earlier and more effective treatment thereof. Balanced clinical work as a randomised controlled trial doctor with academic research. Employed both supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods including boosting, clustering and neural networks on randomised controlled trial data from the INCA-1 and INCA-SUN studies. Gained experience in a dynamic acute hospital environment in diverse specialties under the academic specialist track: orthopaedic surgery, respiratory medicine/academic rotation, gastroenterology and nephrology. As an academic track intern, conducted research in parallel to clinical duties. Awarded First Prize for Research Excellence at National Doctor's Training and Planning Academic Track Showcase. Participated in high standard teaching for each specialty and performed ward level medical, surgical and nephrology call.
Tutored 1st and 2nd year medical students in two subjects facilitating students' learning of a diverse range of topics in a problem-based learning style. Guided students in their learning of these fields as well as academic literacy and basic research methods while presenting tailored learning sessions for individual groups’ needs.
