About

I lead CGIAR Climate Action, a cross-Center program aligning CGIAR institutions to deliver science that help countries, producers, and the global community to act on climate change with evidence. My work is about delivery: building teams, partnerships, and systems that generate innovative, demand-driven science and turn that knowledge into results. I’ve worked across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, advancing data-driven approaches to strengthen resilience and reduce emissions. Success, for me, is when science informs action.

At ICRAF, I investigate how smallholder agriculture affects the environment and society and vice versa. In particular, my research applies observational and manipulative experiments, data synthesis and modeling techniques to understand the synergies and tradeoffs among food production, soil health and climate at farm- and landscape scales and optimize local and global benefits from agricultural systems in developing countries. Methods development for monitoring social and environmental change and climate-smart agriculture (agriculture and food systems that increase productivity, build resilience and mitigate climate change) are integral themes of my current work. I am particularly interested in integrative, multidisciplinary science that can be applied to emerging policy and development issues and thus is always keen to find ways to link knowledge with action. I currently work with partners ranging from farmers to continental-level policy makers in diverse agriculture and food systems in East and Central Africa and Latin America.
