Prof. Dr. Tobias Schimmer (Hildenbrand) is SAP's global Head of Developer Experience. Before he worked as chief development expert for SAP's Industry Cloud business unit (formerly part of CloudERP) in Newport Beach, Southern California, which started as a product incubation endeavor in July 2019. Before that, Tobias was the Chief Product Owner for SAP's latest Innovation Center in Newport Beach while serving as one of the "co-founders" of the initial team and location in 2018. When he joined SAP in 2009, he took over program management responsibility for the global rollout of lean and agile software development at SAP (2009-2010). Tobias drove the implementation of lean product development in SAP's eleven strategic investment areas in 2011 while also coaching a pilot project combining lean/agile development and design thinking. In 2012 and 2013 Tobias was driving the implementation of Design Thinking in SAP’s development organization while coaching a large co-innovation projects e.g. with large fashion customers. Since 2014 he is responsible for driving and piloting customer-centered product and business model innovation in SAP's global development organization, i.e. content owner, coach instructor and consultant for strategic innovation projects such as SAP SportsOne and SAP Fashion Management among various others. Tobias is constantly involved in research and teaching activities around enterprise software innovation, design and development, e.g. as honorary professor at the University of Mannheim and as guest lecturer and visiting researcher with the University of California in Irvine (UCI) among others. His previous academic and professional experience revolved around research and development tasks in collaboration with companies from the software, IT consulting, and financial service provider industry. In particular, Tobias was responsible for product development of a collaborative software development and visual requirements management solution. Building on that, his research work focused on improving traceability of globally-distributed development projects as well as understanding social networks within larger software companies.
