Tim Plumptre is a consultant with an international reputation, a published author, and an experienced public speaker in both official languages. He has specialized in the provision of advice to governmental organizations, having worked at the highest levels of the Canadian Government; more recently his work has been largely focused on supporting nonprofit organizations and charities. One of the outcomes of that work, has been the publication of a new book, "The Intrepid Nonprofit: Strategies for Success in Turbulent Times." He has had a multi-faceted career as a public servant, as a senior partner in William Mercer Ltd., a large international consulting firm, as an author, as founder and President of the Institute On Governance, and as a journalist. An innovator in the realm of ideas, he is an accomplished writer and engaging speaker who is frequently asked to comment in the media on matters of public policy. His 1988 book Beyond the Bottom Line: Management in Government was one of the first on “public management” — a concept not then widely recognized. It became a best-seller within three months. His more recent book, "The Intrepid Nonprofit" has been very positively reviewed both before and after publication. In 1990 he launched the Institute On Governance, a non-profit ‘think tank’, introducing the concept of governance years before this idea entered common usage. He has helped to define what “good governance” means in the public sphere. Much of the Institute’s work has focused on the needs of developing countries and on the governance challenges of indigenous peoples. After 18 years of successful leadership, he left the Institute in 2008 to pursue interests in writing, consulting and related areas.
