About

Over three decades of C-Level leadership in aerospace, defence, and advanced visualisation have shaped a single conviction: sustained performance depends on the quality of leadership at every level of an organisation. As a Non-Executive Board Member and strategic advisor, I work with two groups of leaders. - For founders and scale-up CEOs, I act as a trusted sparring partner — translating strategic intent into executable plans and accelerating growth without losing operational control. - For boards and C-level executives, I provide independent challenge, strategic rigour, M&A guidance, and leadership development. My experience spans building global P&Ls exceeding €150M across three continents, leading carve-outs and transformations of 500+ people, and serving on boards of both corporate subsidiaries and family-owned businesses. Along the way, I have built internal corporate ventures and scaled innovative technology start-ups from the ground up. My sector depth is concentrated in aerospace, defence, security and surveillance, drones, and military flight training — industries where the stakes of poor decision-making are high and where I have spent the majority of my career, from Barco, and Esterline to ScioTeq. I am currently a board member at Agilica (drone navigation technology), FARESA (mental health services), and AMBITS (leadership development), a senior advisor to multiple companies active in Defense & Security, and a Deal Guide at BAN Flanders, where I match private investors with early-stage founders. Experience

  • Independent Strategic Advisor & Board Member - www.frank-timmermans.com at Self Employed - Owner
    Jan 2021 - Present · 5 yrs 6 mos

Independent advisory practice focused on leadership development and strategic growth for internationally operating companies. I advise CEOs, C-level executives, and supervisory boards on three core challenges: defining and executing strategy in complex, innovation, and technology driven markets; preparing organisations for M&A transactions, carve-outs, or post-merger integration; and developing the leadership depth of founders and starters that is required to scale sustainably. Clients range from PE-backed technology companies and defence-sector scale-ups to family businesses seeking their first independent board perspective. My approach is to ask the questions that internal management cannot — and to bring a practitioner's understanding of what it takes to build and lead global teams. Sector focus: Aerospace · Defence & Security · Advanced Visualisation · Training & Simulation · Air Traffic Control Contact E-Mail: [email protected] www.frank-timmermans.com

  • Deal Guide | Investor & Founder Advisor at BAN Flanders - Business Angels Network Flanders
    Jan 2026 - Present · 6 mos

BAN Flanders connects private investors with early-stage and seed-phase entrepreneurs across Flanders. As a Deal Guide, I act as an independent intermediary throughout the investment process — from initial introductions and due diligence support through to term sheet negotiation and deal closing. This role draws directly on my M&A experience and my understanding of what investors need to see in a founder and a business model. It is also a practical expression of my commitment to the Flemish scale-up ecosystem and the next generation of technology-driven companies. www.ban-vlaanderen.be

  • Chairman of the Board of Directors at Agilica
    Jun 2024 - Present · 2 yrs 1 mo

Agilica is a deep-tech spin-off of the Royal Military Academy of Brussels, developing precise navigation and tracking systems for drone operations in GPS-denied and offshore environments — a rapidly growing capability gap across both defence and industrial markets. As Chairman, I provide strategic oversight and governance during the company's critical early commercialisation phase. My responsibilities include setting board agenda and structure, supporting the founding team on go-to-market strategy and investor relations, and ensuring that the transition from research to scalable product company is managed with appropriate rigour. www.agilica.be

  • Member Board of Directors at FARESA
    Mar 2023 - Present · 3 yrs 4 mos

FARESA is a growing mental health organisation operating across Belgium, serving over 1,000 patients annually through a network of psychologists, with a parallel B2B division delivering mental health programmes to major corporate clients. Leadership performance and mental resilience are inseparable — a conviction that makes FARESA a natural extension of my advisory focus. As a board member, I contribute strategic perspective on growth, organisational scaling, and the development of FARESA Digital Tools, an internal health-tech venture building digital-first mental health solutions. www.faresa.be

  • Partner & Co-Owner, Business Mentor at Ambits
    Jul 2022 - Present · 4 yrs

AMBITS is a leadership development practice founded on the belief that personal growth and organisational performance are directly linked. We design and deliver programmes for leadership teams seeking to close the gap between strategic ambition and day-to-day execution. My role at AMBITS both reflects and deepens my advisory work: the frameworks and methods we develop for clients are grounded in decades of first-hand operational experience across global, multicultural organisations. AMBITS works with leaders across sectors, with particular depth in technology-driven and internationally operating businesses. For 3 years, till summer 2026, I acted as Co-CEO focusing on restoring profitability and financial stability of AMBITS. I primarely drove a business restructuring— increasing sales, optimising costs, and reorganising the team for maximum efficiency. In parallel, I orchestrated the company’s refinancing to secure operational headroom and support sustainable growth. Today, AMBITS is profitable, well-capitalised, and strategically positioned to scale up fast. www.ambits.eu/about
