Graduation at Philips ETG in Lommel “Chain reduction and discoloration of optical products during injection moulding” The graduation project of ChemicalEngineering at the Fontys College of Technology was at Philips E.T.G. in Lommel. In a short time I have learned a lot about polymers and injection moulding. The reasons of the investigation were problems with discoloration during injection moulding of poly carbonate with a hotrunner. A literature research was done en subsequently test products were injection moulded at different moulding parameters. Chain reduction was identified with a massflowrate-determination. Discoloration was visually observed with a calibration series. Experiments proved that a.o. cylinder temperature elevation and prolongation of residence time in the cylinder in combination with cylinder temperature elevation lead to chain reduction and discoloration.
