Hi! I'm Thuy-Vy Nguyen. I'm currently a Software Engineer at Oracle. Personal website: https://thuyvy.vercel.app Previously, I completed my undergrad in Computer Science at Oregon State, was a SWE Intern at Oracle on the Shepherd Deployment Automation Team, and volunteered at Develop for Good with ideas42. While I was at Oregon State, I worked as an Undergraduate Developer at TAHMO Project under Dr. Tom Dietterich, an undergraduate research assistant in the DIV Lab, an IMPACT Lead Volunteer, Society of Women Engineers Ambassador, ProjectX Volunteer, Undergraduate Research Assistant in the CARVE Lab, Honors College Web Editor, and College of Engineering Peer Tutor for CS & Math.
- Supported core deployment automation service used to deploy all of OCI’s services and infrastructure to 40+ worldwide regions: executed deployments, implemented key features, and served on-call to ensure reliability of service. - Improved user experience by re-designing UI components, adding UI support for CLI exclusive functionality, implementing filtering by release targets in the UI, and implementing automatic release creation via customizable filters using React, Figma, and Blueprint - Improved operational load/performance and maintained service health by adding daemons that cancels/archives outdated releases and Grafana graphs & alarms for database connection metrics using Java, Terraform, and Docker - Onboarded Cerner’s services to OCI internal services and designed/developed new console UI - Panelist for new-grad hires and a one on one mentor for interns
Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory under Dr. Tom Dietterich. - Aims to create a network of weather stations in Africa and utilize machine learning algorithms to provide insight on agricultural, climate monitoring, and hydro-meteorological applications. I managed the ticketing system that handles weather stations maintenance. - Used IBM Cloud to manage cloud resources by enacting and overseeing application deployments - Updated UI to include more functionality (filtering, sorting, & ordering) using Angular.js and MongoDB - Inspected network activity and optimized database queries of the ticketing system to improve performance by over 25% - Enacted security measures by adding new user profile roles that restrict resource access to permitted users - Implemented notifications for ticket updates and created automatic subscriptions for relevant managers/technicians
Data Interaction and Visualization Lab headed by Dr. Minsuk Kahng. - Research focused on creating data visualization tools to help people learn, explore, and understand machine-learning models. In this lab, I have experience with designing, creating, conducting user studies for, and evaluating these interfaces using Flask, Python, Svelte, and D3.js Publications: - Visual Exploration and Analysis of Videos with Interactive Annotation: Introduces VIVA, a novel interactive tool for visually exploring long videos and searching for specific moments. ACM International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces 2023 - Contrastive Identification of Covariate Shift in Image Data: Introduces a visual interface that explains and identifies dataset shifts to nonexperts. IEEE Visualization Conference 2021
Classes tutored: Into to CS, Data Structures, Web Development, Algorithms, Discrete Math, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Series, Stats for Engineers, Operating Systems
- Developed a Slack application, SheepDog, used in 500+ Slack channels to instantly send customizable notifications when a deployment updates - Implemented a database schema in SQL to associate deployments with Slack channels and directed OCI’s internal deployment service to message channels using Java, Slack APIs, and Guava’s EventBus
