Principal Investigator for R&D contract for Industrialization of Oxide/Oxide Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC). Lead multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians. Chemicals and Finishes for composite and metal aerostructures. PI for Advanced Chemical Technologies R&D project for new replacement chemical technologies, focused on environmental REACh regulations. Analytical chemistry and materials characterization support for multiple R&D projects and production/shop floor support.
• Research new replacement technologies for environmental sustainability • Tackle climate change and engage supply chain • 50+ aerospace companies worth $400B+ in attendance. Active in multiple working groups: WG1 (Substance Declarations), WG2 (Replacement technologies), and WG9 (Emerging Regulations). • Major emphasis on eliminating hexavalent chromium in aerospace products/processes. In WG2, we have 3 active research projects for hexavalent chrome free replacements for 1) Bond Primers, 2) Chemical Conversion Coatings, and 3) Integral Fuel Tank Coatings. Collaborate with major OEMS and across aerospace and defense supply chain. • In WG9, we review emerging regulations and prioritize communications for upcoming REACh and other country regulations. Evaluate the impact of these new regulations on the aerospace industry and disruption on the supply chain.
Formulated environmentally friendly waterborne coatings for Protective and Marine Coatings group. Specialized in siloxane, epoxy, polyurethane, and acrylic coatings. Focused on next generation corrosion inhibitors.
Ph.D. research in Materials Science and Engineering with Prof. Nancy Sottos and Prof. Scott White. Collaborated with industrial partner, British Petroleum (BP), on developing smarter coatings for the oil and gas industry. Worked in the cross-functional, interdisciplinary Autonomous Materials Systems (AMS) group at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Research projects included: Development of environmentally responsive electrospun core-shell fibers for self-healing coatings Synthesis of micron-sized sacrificial polylactic acid fibers for microvasculature Synthesis and characterization of metastable polymeric fibers for sacrificial templates for epoxy and carbon-fiber composites
Performed laboratory research in inorganic chemistry and nanomaterials synthesis for batteries, nanocomposites, and other energy and defense applications. Published in scientific journals and presented at local and national conference (ACS).
