About

From Industrial design, over mechanical development, to project management: More than two decades of experience in R&D for the (consumer) electronics industries: industrial design, mechanical engineering, plastic moulding and finishing, team lead mechanical design and now project management. This results in a unique familiarity with a wide range of disciplines, covering plastics- and sheet metal design, electronics and RF, embedded firmware and application software, design validation and certifications, operations and testing, purchasing and logistics, … One common denominator in all my past experiences is the curiosity for human interactions: From the interactions between the user and a product, to the interactions between members of a development team. This human focus really is the salt and pepper I seek in every function I hold, and it gives me the energy to go for it every day again.

As Project Manager I am in the lead of multiple concurrent product development programs. I am steering cross functional international teams, consisting of managers each responsible for their expertise domains (Procurement, Operations, Marketing, Engineering (HW, SW, Mech, ...), Validation and Certification. These contacts can be both technical and non-technical, company internal or -external, ... In a first phase I take the lead in discussing the requirements with internal and/or external stakeholders, resulting in a clear scope statement. I am responsible for presenting the project budgets, development plan, and deliverables, obtain executive management sign off, and assure the required resources are assigned. During the development I communicate on regular basis the progress with the stakeholders, and escalate any potential problem. Besides driving the HW/SW/Mech design cycles, I assure that all certifications are obtained on-time, and that quality department is involved in both the design validation testing as well as production quality insurance. In all this I closely collaborate with product managers who are looking after the marketing and sales aspects of the product.

    • Team Leader Mechanical Design
      1999 - Jul 2018 · 19 yrs 7 mos

Over the past years I have contributed to the growth and success of Option: Where initially I was responsible for just one mechanical design, I gradually created an international and multi disciplinary team around me of up to 12 people at its peak. With this team we conceive and design the tangible appearance of Option's wireless data devices (pc cards, usb sticks, embedded modules, routers, ...). As this activity has been build up from zero in Option, I also played an important role in the selection of a supply base for plastics and metal parts, and corresponding decoration techniques. This is an ever ongoing activity as both the technical as geographic needs continuously change (now mainly in China). My responsibility stretches over the entire development process, from initial concept, over industrial design, detailed engineering, to release for mass production.
