Owner and boat designer at Wyliecat LLC. Founder of Wylie Charters, representing a boat for hire, the Derek M. Baylis involved in corporate, recreational, educational and scientific charters around the San Francisco Bay and California cost. In his 40-year career, this fearless, passionate yet soft-spoken pioneer has produced some of the most innovative and imaginative sailing vessels in the world. He helped develop the technology of cold molding, pioneered Ultralight Displacement Boat design and construction, and earned a reputation for generating fast, elegant, and easy to handle boats. With over 60 designs to his credit, Wylie has developed a diverse repertoire of ocean racers, global voyagers, and commercial workboats. Wylie gained an empirical education professionally competing in 50,000 miles of notable races: The Transpac, Admirals Cup, S.O.R.C, Bermuda Race, Chicago Mac, and The Fastnet. He expanded his knowledge to sailmaking while completing his BA in Industrial Design at San Francisco State University. Later, he developed boat-building skills in wood, metal, and composite. As a racer, sailmaker, and renowned boat builder, Wylie brings a comprehensive understanding to the design process.
