About

I grew up typing code listings into a C64 from stacks of 64er magazines - curious about what made that machine tick. That curiosity never left. Over the years I've worked with more technologies than I can list, navigated Waterfall projects, helped teams transition to Scrum and Kanban, and let my love for Linux pull me deep into DevOps before it had that name. What started as bending machines to my will eventually became building the teams that do it, and I discovered I love that just as much. After 9.5 years at Mister Spex, most recently as Head of Engineering, I've had the privilege of growing from hands-on engineer to engineering leader without ever losing the engineer's instinct. I still believe the best managers are the ones who remember what it's like to be in the thick of it. My leadership philosophy is simple: great software is built by great teams, and great teams are built on trust, psychological safety, and a relentless appetite for learning. I ask "why" a lot. I think that's a feature, not a bug. What keeps me energised after all these years? The everyday "aha moments" that technology still delivers. The fact that there genuinely isn't a single day you can't learn something new in this field. Outside of work you'll find me with my family, deep in a good book, or losing track of time in a video game or on the back of my GS1250. If any of this resonates, whether you want to talk engineering culture, leadership, or just geek out about retro hardware, I'd love to connect.

I started in November 2011 with Springer in an Application Management position for Springer Medizin, Springer Professional and various other Springer portals using the CoreMedia 5 Technology Stack. I also supported older Struts based applications for E-Detailings and services for Continued Medical Education (CME). I then transferred to an agile team that established, operated and further developed the CoreMedia7 CMS for internal customers focussing on reliability, efficiency, and performance. The team relied heavily on the CoreMedia7 technology stack, including (but not limited to) Java, Spring and Jangaroo working with Jenkins and Chef to continuously build and deploy the application artifacts to the Springer infrastructure. My goal was to provide internal customers with a highly available and responsive system for their content editing and publishing needs while delivering requested features as soon as possible. To do this the team employs a Continuous Integration process enabling it to release with constant quality every hour of every day.
