Thomas Szucs is Professor and Director of the European Center of Pharmaceutical/Institute of Pharmaceutical Medicine at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Previously he was head of the health economics activities at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine of the University of Zurich. Former appointments include Head of Research and founder of the Center of Pharmacoeconomics of the University of Milan, Italy, Head of the Working Group for Clinical Economics at the Department of Internal Medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, Germany, Senior Consultant at Arthur D Little Inc and Head of the Department of Health Economics at F Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd in Basel, Germany. He holds a medical degree from the University of Basel, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of St Gallen, Switzerland, a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University, an LL.M in International Business Law from the University of Zurich and a doctorate in law from the Private University of Liechtenstein. He is board certified specialist in Pharmaceutical Medicine as well as in Prevention and Public Health. Professor Szucs is also a member of several scientific journals’ editorial boards and has published more than 300 articles, book chapters and monographs. He is a board member and chairman of several public and private biotech companies and since 2010 chairman of the largest Swiss health insurer, Helsana Group. His main research and teaching interests are pharmacoeconomics, pharma policy, health services research, health technology assessment, personalized medicine/pharmacogenetics and health-/pharma-law. In 2010 he has been appointed honorary professor at the University of Peking's Health Science Center. In 2016 he was rated among the 20 most influential economists in Switzerland.
