About

I’m passionate about sustainability research and its valorisation. A compass is needed to point us towards a sustainable future. My main area of expertise is environmental impact assessment of industrial systems, more specifically life cycle assessment (LCA). However, I also focus on the bigger picture by exploring social and economic sustainability. For my main vision on this matter, see following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej1EVNOMTDA. Natural systems, such as ecosystems, can and should also be assessed regarding their sustainability (https://www.nature.com/articles/543315c) and provided services (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1eEkm81ZV4&t=1s). I focus both on improvement of sustainability assessment methodology as well as on its application in collaboration with industry (https://www.list.lu/en/research/project/florec/). for a more complete list of my publications, please visit following website: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Thomas_Schaubroeck?ev=hdr_xprf

I improved and applied Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) methodology, which is a tool for environmental sustainability assessment. LCA studies have been performed by me in the fields of forestry, aquaculture, wastewater treatment. Additionally, I studied and improved start-up of OLAND, a nitrogen removal technology for wastewater treatment. I've taught some practica and exercises for different courses.
