Dr. Thomas Greuter is Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Università della Svizzera Italiana and Chair of the GI Division at EOC in Lugano, Switzerland. He is also adjunct consultant at the University Hospital Lausanne - CHUV. He obtained his MD degree at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, where he also received his venia legendi. He was trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology, with special training in IBD, EoE, transplant hepatology and advanced endoscopy, at the Zurich Regional Health Center GZO, University Hospital Zurich, Mayo Clinic Rochester MN, and the University Hospital Lausanne CHUV. His endoscopic skills include among others EUS, ERCP, POEM and ESD. His research focuses on chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and has been funded (among others) by the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Novartis Foundation, the Swiss Society for Gastroenterology, the University of Zurich alumni foundation, the EoE Foundation, and a grant from the NIH-funded consortium for eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease researchers CEGIR. Dr. Greuter has published >150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has served on several ECCO and international EoE guidelines committees. In 2024, he received the prestigious Rising Star Award of the United European Gastroenterology (UEG). He also completed an executive MBA in general management and digital transformation at University of Zurich.
