      CAD Society is the first society at the University of Birmingham that aims to educate students in Computer Aided Design Software, providing a supportive workspace where members can work on projects hone, their skills and take part in design competitions. We are developing connections with well known companies such as Autodesk to support our mission to educate our peers in CAD.

      At the end of second year myself and a group of the Autodesk Student Ambassadors decided to set up a CAD Society to educate our peers in CAD software techniques and use of CAM machines. I am on the CADSOC committee and as Makerspace Manager it is my duty to run and maintain the CAM equipment including 3D printers, CNC Routers, etc. As a committee member I have co-written the proposal to the University for the makerspace funding, working on the Equipment and Materials needed for the facility and presented the new society to the student body to stimulate interest in joining the society. I have also contributed in the operation of the society social media campaign.

    I spent a year working at Hamble Aerostructures Ltd as a Composite Manufacturing Engineer with study time as a Design Engineer as a part of the Composite Detail department. I learnt valuable skills and gained insight into process development, deficiency troubleshooting and continuous improvement of composite components at detail and assembly stages of manufacture across a range of civil and military aircraft.

      I am working to improve the bodywork of our ultra mileage car in time for the 2020 competition. As Assistant Bodywork Team Leader I am putting a particular emphasis on development of the cockpit, to make it lighter and improve visibility, and wheel covers to reduce air resistance on the vehicle and improve on last years performance.

      I have been an active member of Brum Eco racing team, working to build an ultra mileage car to compete in the annual Shell Eco Marathon. I have taken leadership roles in the bodywork and wheel cover groups as well as running the social media for the society. This has given me experience working with many hand tools as well as basic machining such as lathes and millers and numerous CAD packages, such as Solidworks and Altair. I attended the Shell Eco Marathon 2019 at Mercedes Benz World in Surrey where our team placed for the first time achieving 5th out of the UK teams.
