I am a French architect with educational and professional experience in parametric design, sustainability and biomimicry at scales ranging from material to ecosystem. Pursuing a research path on biomimicry for Architecture, I just graduated from the Integrated Bioscience Ph.D. program at The University of Akron, USA, on ways to implement biological growth into architecture through biotechnology (mycelium-based materials) and biomimicry (design of root-inspired building foundations). During my Ph.D., I served as a Teaching Assistant for a Biology lab and as a Research Assistant for the Biodesign Lab. Teaching a Natural Science Biology Lab covering topics from DNA fingerprinting and bacterial growth to genetics and ecology - 40 students per section (weekly labs) - Wide variety of students' background and professional goals - In-person sessions, with adaptation into a remote/online format during the pandemic Goal: - Trigger the students' curiosity to have them question how the natural world functions - Provide the background information and tools to guide them
Research Assistant for the Biodesign Lab Research and manufacturing of mycelium-based materials: - Production of mycelium-based materials in collaboration with redhouse studio architecture, Cleveland, Ohio, USA - Compare mycelium growth made from different material compositions, manufacturing processes, and growth conditions - Assess manufacturing variables affecting the mechanical properties of mycelium-based materials - Evaluate the outdoor durability of mycelium-based panels for façade applications
