A chemist by training, I initially thought that I was all set for a career in academic settings. This was the case until a chain of events occuring during my undergraduate studies somewhat altered my career plans. It made me rethink the way I want to step into my first job after graduation and progress from there. So, that is when I thought I wanted to do something more practical where its applications can be useful in real life. After getting my undergraduate degree, I went on to read process engineering for my first year of Master's degree. And this decision was very much in line with my aspirations. I got to learn about unit operations, which are essential in industrial processes. From this moment on, I started to develop a passion for chemical engineering where we put physical sciences like chemistry to practical use and create something of great value. Moreover, my placement at Siemens really shaped my vision of chemical engineering even further. Surrounded by brilliant people who are expert in their area of specialisation, this is where I got introduced to and learnt a lot about process modelling. Yes, one of the core skills of a chemical engineer where we design and simulate a process for implementation in industry. This experience has got me inspired and paved the way I want to start my career. It has sparked my keen interest in process modelling. Having a chemistry background coupled with chemical engineering skills, I wish to find a position as a chemical process engineer or process chemist where I can get to work with people in both R&D and engineering to design, optimise, and scale up processes for development of new products in any kind of sector from F&B to energy & chemicals through pharmaceuticals.
