Omaha, Nebraska, United States
We use our talents and gifts given to us to praise and worship God, to uplift and encourage others, and give people a place to enjoy the arts and share if they so choose. We use our free poetry nights to help raise funds for churches and organizations that are doing good in the community. We also coordinate and host poetry nights for organizations that request our service to put it together for them either for fun or fundraising purposes. The Light Poetic Ministry, through the grace of God, will also like to participate in community service. We will be partnering with a high number of organization in the Omaha Community to work with the homeless, and people who may not be as fortunate as others. One of our main goals as an organization is to streamline the ability to assist individuals in need. In some instances, there are multiple forms to fill out to help a person, administrative hurdles have to be climbed, and it hinders the ability to assist. We want to knock down the walls and just help people and if poetry is a way to assist, then we will do that. However, if God tells us to use a different skill, then we will use what he gives us.
We organized, held and hosted a poetry night with them on January 11, 2014 where we had poetry and praise dancing. We are still working with them and will be doing more partnering with them in the future.
We have been hosting, holding, and organizing poetry nights under the Family Department for Sharon SDA Church for 3 years. We also have an annual event called Serenade Your Sweetheart in the month of February we write poems for people and their loved ones and encourage them to write their own as well.
The Crystal Palace Daycare is a new child care service started by Crystal Agesa, it is a 24/7 pay what you can afford daycare. We organized a poetry night to help raise funds for her business. We promoted this event through social media, word of mouth, flyers. At this event we had poets, Christian rappers, and a musician. From the promoting of this event, sharing it on social media, and the actual event itself, we were able to raise $250. We are still working with her and helping her to get more items and supplies for her Daycare.
