I have concluded my tenure at Sail Lanka Charter Pvt Ltd as the Maintenance Manager on 31st January 2026. During my tenure, I was responsible for overseeing the overall maintenance, technical management, and operational readiness of the Sail Lanka Yacht fleet and related facilities. I am happy to express the key responsibilities and achievements during my period such as; * Planned, implemented, and supervised preventive and corrective maintenance programmes for the company’s yacht, ensuring safety, seaworthiness, and regulatory compliance. * Successfully managed multiple vessel refit, repair, and upgrade projects, coordinating with sister companies of the group, service providers, and regulatory authorities. * Played a key role in improving fleet reliability and availability by introducing structured maintenance schedules, documentation systems, and cost-control measures. * Led and mentored the maintenance team, fostering a culture of accountability, safety awareness, and continuous improvement. * Coordinated boat lifting, machinery overhauls, and inspections while minimizing vessel downtime and operational disruptions. * Actively contributed to technical decision-making, budgeting, and procurement of spare parts and equipment, achieving better value and long-term operational efficiency. *Responsible for repair and maintenance of Central AC plants and split type AC plants located in Naval Headquarters. *Responsible offer for proper operation, maintaining logs, forwarding engineering returns and general maintenance of generators and arrange routing services/ repairs of generators available at SLNS Parakrama. *Responsible to arrange servicing/repairs of all portable fire extinguishers and fixed fire extinguishing systems available at SLNS Parakrama. *Responsible officer for inciting outside repairs/ routine service of vehicles through Director Automobile Engineering for vehicles under the purview of MTE(M). *Responsible for initiating outside repair/ routing services for any naval vehicle with written approval from Director Automobile Engineering.
*Officer In-Charge of all Auxiliary Machineries fitted onboard ship. *Experience in operation and maintenance of Gas Turbines, Diesel Engines, CPP Propulsion, Diesel Alternators, Boilers, Evaporators, Air Condition & Refrigeration plants, Air Compressors, Oil Water Separators, Lub Oil Purifiers and various systems onboard. *Carried out Hot Section Inspection of Pratt and Whitney FT4A Gas Turbine Engine. *Carried out Center Section Overhaul of General Motors EMD 645-8-E2 Engine. *Carried out Annual Survey of both Ship Service Boilers (Johnsons) in liaison with certified authority. *Assistant NBCDO and responsible for maintaining operational state of firefighting and damage control systems.
*Carrying out inspections of sites prior issuing recommendations for importation of both scheduled and requested chemicals. *Analyzing and preparation of import permits/ recommendations for chemical importers. *Carrying out raids of unauthorized chemical handlers liaise with Sri Lanka Police and CBRN units of tri-forces. *Preparation of online chemical monitoring mechanism for monitoring of all regulated chemicals in Sri Lanka. *Carrying out inspections of expired chemicals in harbor premises and issue recommendations. *Training/ Awareness programmes for government/ privet sector regarding chemical management. *Arranging international programmes liaise with OPCW. *Providing assistance to other chemical regulating authorities for sound chemical management in Sri Lanka. *Provide technical assistance/ general guidelines to chemical industries for transportation, storage and handling of chemicals. *Collection and analyzing data from users of chemicals in explosive nature considering National Security. *Providing technical assistance to Sri Lanka Navy for disinfection/ decontamination programmes during Covid-19 Pandemic.
*Monitoring and providing security to the ships entered Port of Colombo with Dangerous Cargo and preparing a database. *Conducted training sessions to the naval personnel at SLNS Rangalla regarding CBRN first responding. *Transferred arrested 14 No‟s 50kg Sodium Cyanide (NaCN) barrels from Aduruppuveediya Police Station to CEFAP Unit, SLNS Gemunu naval premises for safe storage.
*Gained extensive knowledge of the systems onboard Fast Gun Boats and Inshore Patrol Craft (including trawlers & Tug boats). *Carried out Routine Under Water Maintenance of Tug boat at Walkers Colombo Ship Yard. *Carried out Routine Under Water Maintenance of SLNS Edithara II and SLNS Ranadeera at Command Slipway. *Carried out interchanging of Main Engine components and overhauls of Main Engines. *Gained extensive knowledge of piano wire alignment and cold repairs to propeller shafts
*Actively participated in the Semi-refit project of SLNS Shakthi at CDPLC for 06 months and gained extensive knowledge of underwater repairs & all system repairs. *Installed new Sewage Treatment Plant, Oily Water Separator and 01 Ton Crane onboard with required modifications. *Gained extensive knowledge of the marine environment and of offshore engineering including working at workshops.
