Arlington, Massachusetts, United States

About

Thanh-Nga Tran is an instructor in Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, researcher at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and dermatologist at Kuchnir Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. She is committed to first and foremost patient care as well as translational and clinical research, bringing the discoveries in the laboratories into clinical practice. The focus of her research is on the integration of biomedical engineering, particularly nanotechnology, laser medicine, and drug delivery towards developing novel therapies for dermatologic conditions. She is also interested in developing therapies for pediatric vascular anomalies. She is currently leading a clinical trial to determine the effectiveness of two preventative therapies that has the potential to impact the lives of children with vascular birthmarks. She is also spear heading a translational effort in understanding radiation-induced fibrosis as well as other fibrotic state, and the ability of fractional laser therapy to modulate the fibrosis response. She is actively involved in mentoring medical students and residents as well as in international medical volunteer work, having established a vascular anomalies clinic in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where she continues to devote part of her time yearly for the support and training of dermatologists there. Her passion for international volunteer work has allowed her to help thousands of children in her native Vietnam who would have gone through life with disfiguring birthmarks and she is working hard on introducing new, safe, and effective technologies to Vietnam as well as improving medical and resident training in dermatology and dermatopathology. She has been recognized locally (Harvard Medical School Dean’s Faculty Community Service Award), nationally (American Academy of Dermatology’s Member Making a Difference Award), and internationally for this effort, and is one of the invited speakers at UNESCO’s International Year of Light Opening Ceremony in January 2015 in Paris. She is committed to a career as an academic dermatologist, involving patient care, research as well as mentoring the future generation of medical doctors and researchers and giving back to the world at large through international medical volunteer work. Specialties: dermatology, lasers, cosmetic procedures, neurotoxins, dermal fillers, photodynamic therapy, skin cancer, birthmarks, clinical and translational research, international volunteerism.
