About

I am a Year 3 Diploma in Computer Engineering student at Singapore Polytechnic, building toward computer vision, AI software and systems integration. My problem-solving approach began with mathematics. In secondary school, my Mathematics teacher, Mr Lim, taught us to visualise concepts instead of memorising steps, using graphs and gradients to understand differentiation. It taught me to understand a problem’s structure before solving it. That mindset became more meaningful during LeX Batangas. I went in eager to form a solution, but conversations with NGOs, students, stakeholders and residents showed me that useful solutions are refined through feedback, not built on assumptions. I learnt that the real issue is not always what it first appears to be. The same habit of checking assumptions matters in computer vision. In one project, tuning that seemed promising during early testing did not perform well on real images collected. Hence, I used those results as "feedback" to improve dataset variety, review wrong predictions and refine evaluation. This strengthened my interest in building AI systems that are tested against real conditions. Alongside these experiences, I have maintained a cGPA of 3.99 with 19 distinctions, including the Director’s Honour Roll, SP Engineering Scholarship and A*STAR Science Award. I am observant, willing to take initiative and ready to speak up when it matters. My value is connecting analytical thinking, stakeholder understanding and implementation to turn requirements into useful, reliable systems improved by feedback.

Experience

  • AI Research Intern, AI Systems & Perception Pipelines at A*STAR Institute for Infocomm Research (A*STAR I²R)
    Mar 2026 - Present · 4 mos

    • Exploring AI/vision systems for robotics through ROS 2 simulation, navigation and perception workflows using Python, C++, Gazebo, RViz, Docker, GitHub and computer vision tools. • Developing a simulation-based navigation research workflow involving SLAM, Nav2, Explore-Lite, Hydra-ROS, VLMs and related integration components, while documenting experiments and explaining technical progress to my supervisor. • Supported confidential benchmarking/testing for an internal escorting-robot project, helping evaluate system behaviour and reliability while respecting project confidentiality. • Supported RoboFest 2026 outreach by explaining VR robot teleoperation to groups of 10 to 20 students/visitors. This role is helping me build toward AI/vision system integration by learning to break down unfamiliar systems, test workflows carefully, document clearly and explain technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Retail Assistant at FairPrice Group
    Jan 2024 - Feb 2024 · 2 mos

    • Supported customer enquiries and product checking 5 days a week during the Chinese New Year peak period in a fast-paced retail environment. • Helped maintain smooth store operations by listening to product concerns, checking issues calmly, and resolving suitable cases through replacement or escalation. This experience taught me to stay patient, clarify needs and communicate calmly when people have different expectations. These habits are useful for future customer-facing technical work, especially when understanding requirements or explaining solutions.
