As a Grade 2 Allied Health Assistant specialising in Speech Therapy, I provide support for school-age clients with speech and language delays. My role includes: 1. Assisting in the provision of Social Skills groups for school-age children with autism, focusing on developing social communication in a neuroaffirming and culturally safe manner. 2. Providing 1:1 therapy assistance for clients with complex speech disorders and developmental language delays, under the supervision of a CPSP. 3. Development of therapy resources and aided language displays.
As a Speech Therapy Assistant, I work within the Therapy Team consisting of Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists to support the needs of students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities. My role includes: 1. Providing mealtime support for students to ensure safe feeding and drinking. 2. Supporting classroom teachers and education support staff with the implementation of the Little Learners Love Literacy program. 3. Development of aided language displays and visual schedules. 4. Provision of aided language stimulation using diverse AAC systems depending on the student (LAMP, electronic and non-electronic PODD, PECS, Key Word Sign).
