Industry: Marine Offshore | Robotics and Automation | R&D Sector Together with my teammate as interns at RRIC, we worked together to contributed to the development of a Relative Displacement Sensing System designed for FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessels. This project aimed to enhance safety monitoring in offshore marine environments by integrating real-time distance, tilt, and motion sensors into a custom prototype. Over the past 22 weeks, this internship has significantly strengthened my skills in embedded systems, circuit troubleshooting, team collaboration, and technical communication. It has also reinforced my passion for engineering, and I look forward to applying these experiences to future academic and professional opportunities. Key responsibilities and accomplishments: - Designed and implemented sensor integration using the ESP32 microcontroller, focusing on I²C communication, signal filtering, and embedded programming. - Conducted extensive testing and calibration of ultrasonic and laser sensors to achieve required accuracy margins (±1 cm and ±5 mm). - Resolved hardware and software challenges through analytical problem-solving, such as addressing I2C address conflicts and implementing real-time data filtering (median, averaging). - Collaborated with a teammate to prototype custom 3D-printed enclosures and internal layouts, improving sensor mounting stability and internal cable organization. - Led procurement planning and price comparison across platforms (RS, Element14, Amazon) to support component sourcing, ensuring compatibility and budget compliance. - Used Excel and Power Query for data logging and analysis, and documented project progress via meeting minutes, Gantt charts, and sensor performance charts. - Presented solutions and progress updates regularly to the supervisor, incorporating feedback into iterative design improvements.
