SAP was founded in 1972 by a group of IBM employees in Mannheim, Germany. Dietmar Hopp, Hans-Werner Hector, Hasso Plattner, Klaus Tessera, and Klaus Vollenroter were the founders of the company. Their goal was to produce functional software for organizations. They initially offered software in the field of financial accounting, and then expanded their product range to other business areas.
