Hello! My name is Tabatha Foxwell (she/her) and I'm a recent graduate of the University of Vermont. I am passionate about environmental reform, legislative affairs, and finding ways through policy to make our communal infrastructure and towns more environmentally friendly. Throughout my career opportunities and educational exploration in college, I aim to create spaces where I can apply my passion for a greener planet with my wit and drive in policy work.
Assisting with the daily operations of the District 3 office and Council Chair Sarah Perry through policy research, constituent casework, and general administrative support.
Guided short and multi-day trips in the Alaskan backcountry, providing high-class paddling instruction and serving as the highest point of safety on the water. Created immersive experiences through local history and ecological information specific to south-central Alaska and the Chugach National Forest, while providing exceptional hospitality by curating a unique trip experience through food, routes, and location.
Worked as a Legislative Assistant to Senator Becca White and served as the legislative TA for UVM's legislative internship program. Conducted constituent relations, and tracked all bills relative to her legislative priorities, including creating and upkeeping the Climate Solution Caucus's session bill tracker. As a TA for the wider program, I provided support for incoming interns by hosting office hours, providing research assistance, facilitating community building within the program, and working with Supervisor Liz Raddock to ensure efficient operations.
Assisted both Representative Leonora Dodge (Chittenden 23) and Representative Kate Lalley (Chittenden 6) with the day-to-day activities, upkeep, and correspondence of working in the legislature. In this position, I crafted several policy research reports on information relevant to the work my legislators were doing in addition to tracking and researching bills passing through their committee, House Transportation. Furthermore, I attended and took notes on the happenings in Senate Transportation to keep my legislators informed on Senate business.
Ran the front desk of Petra Cliffs Climbing Center where staff members help customers purchase passes, rent gear, and provide customer service to anyone looking to get involved in climbing. Staff also work directly with guests and members by teaching belay lessons, providing orientations of the gym and running birthday parties. Front desk staff are responsible for cultivating a friendly, inclusive environment within the gym and while interacting with guests and members. Additionally staff monitor the gym for safety hazards and unsafe climbing to protect against accidents as the acting supervisors. Staff are also responsible for opening and closing the gym and maintaining its cleanliness.
Worked as a Kayak Specialist for the Petra Cliffs Summer Camp where I taught campers the principles of kayaking, led excursions and coached them throughout the day. As the camp's Kayak's specialist, I was responsible for the safety of campers and counselors while on the water. I also planned the days trips, accounting for the age and skill level of the campers while monitoring and adjusting for any inclement weather.
Worked on both Electoral and Policy teams throughout the semester. For the Electoral team: Completed over 30 hours of phone banking for climate champions running in municipal and city races throughout the country, assisted Matthew Solomon (now elected city council member of Emeryville), with research and graphics for his race, and provided general assistance to other candidates running who were endorsed by Run on Climate. For the Policy team: Provided policy research on issues related to Burlington for council member Joe Kane, corresponded with multiple members of Burlington's municipal government to compile research, and collaborated with other interns regarding Burlington policies as a whole.
