I'm a freelance journalist whose story from Nigeria on a national strategy to prevent newborn umbilical cord infections won first place in the public health category of the Association of Health Care Journalists' annual contest. In 2020, I wrote a long piece about a violence intervention program at Washington Hospital Center for "violence recidivists" — people who are repeatedly shot or stabbed and keep returning to the trauma bay. I wrote the obituary of former Rep. Ron Dellums for the Washington Post; and have also written recently about tiny homes in Detroit for Politico, military medicine for Health Affairs, transit-oriented development, green roofs, musicians and ivory, tunneling technology, Toots Thielemans, synthetic meat, the Tampa Bay Times, jazz steel drummer Victor Provost, and bread baker Mark Furstenberg.
Freelance journalist writing mostly for Politico, the Washington Post, and Health Affairs on everything from technology to health to nutrition to music.
