Dr Swapnil Patel is a surgical oncologist. He did his masters in general surgery (MS) from AIIMS Delhi (2013 - 2015). He was awarded the gold medal in the general surgery examination. Subsequently, he got selected to pursue his super-speciality training in field of cancer surgery from the prestigious Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai (2016 - 2019) whereafter he was awarded the Mch Surgical Oncology degree. He continued to pursue academic and surgical excellence in field of minimally invasive colorectal oncology from Mumbai. He also continued learning in the field of advanced cancer surgeries like training in peritoneal surface malignancies from Lyon, France and laparoscopic / robotic complex liver and foregut surgeries from Korea University, Seoul, South Korea. After having spent 8 years in super-specialised training, Dr Swapnil chose to move back to his native town Varanasi and has played a pivotal role in establishing the department of minimally invasive cancer surgery at Tata Memorial Centre, Varanasi. He is also credited with having introduced and established the field of peritoneal surface oncology with complex procedures like CRS-HIPEC in Purvanchal at the TMC Varanasi. He was appointed as Associate Professor at TMC Varanasi wherein he then decided to serve his society in the private health sector. He is currently heading the Surgical Oncology programme at Upkar Super-speciality Hospital and Cancer Institute.
