About

I'm a senior full-stack engineer and technical lead with 20+ years of experience building high-performance systems end to end — from backend architectures to modern frontend interfaces. My sweet spot is Go and Svelte, but I'm proficient across the stack including React, TypeScript and C++. Most recently, I've been building kanban.now, a multi-tenant supply chain platform. I designed the entire Go backend (event-driven microservices, schema-based multi-tenancy, real-time sync via NATS and Redis) and led a complete frontend rewrite from React to Svelte 5 with SvelteKit and Tailwind CSS. I also lead a small distributed team across time zones. Before that, I spent years at .BOSYS building high-throughput C++ data pipelines and Go microservices for the travel industry, grew an engineering team from 4 to 8 developers, and integrated ML capabilities into production. At Tchibo, I bridged technical teams and business stakeholders for their e-commerce travel platform. I'm looking for my next challenge — a permanent role or long-term project in a collaborative team. Ideally working on Go backend systems or full-stack with Svelte, but I'm open to the right opportunity regardless of stack. What matters most is solving interesting problems with a good team.

Experience

  • Senior Software Engineer at Self-Employed
    Jan 2002 - Present · 24 yrs 7 mos

I've been working independently for over 20 years, partnering with companies who need someone who can own the full picture — from architecture decisions to production code to explaining it all to stakeholders. My engagements tend to be long-term because I care about the products I build, not just shipping features. I work remotely with distributed teams, and I've gotten very good at making async collaboration actually work.

  • Senior Information Technology Consultant at Tchibo
    Jan 2015 - Apr 2016 · 1 yr 4 mos

Brought in as the technical lead for reisen.tchibo.de — Tchibo's new travel booking platform. My job was to sit between business and engineering: designing the backend architecture, defining API contracts across teams, and managing external development partners. A big part of the role was translating technical trade-offs into language that business stakeholders could actually make decisions on. Also worked on performance optimization for Tchibo's high-traffic e-commerce systems.

  • Head of Software Development at .BOSYS Software GmbH
    May 2010 - Dec 2014 · 4 yrs 8 mos

Grew the backend team from 4 to 8 engineers building booking and customer management software for travel agencies. Owned architecture decisions, introduced CI and Scrum, and drove major database performance improvements. Spent as much time on people as on code — hiring, mentoring, running 1-on-1s, and bridging communication between dev, product owner, and sales.

  • Java Software Engineer at Huwald Liebschner GmbH
    Sep 2006 - Apr 2010 · 3 yrs 8 mos

This project started as part of my diploma work and was based on a rich client architecture using the Eclipse Rich Client Platform. The main task was the integration of the ERP system and mobile scanning devices, so the data could be automatically processed from the customer's order all the way to the completion of the order picking. After the initial implementation a lot of other plugins were developed (reporting, stocktake, RBAC).
