Between July and September 2016, I did a Research Internship at the Yahoo! Advertising Science team in London. I obtained my PhD degree in 2016 which focused on information retrieval, machine learning and big data mining.

    My PhD research focused on information retrieval, machine learning and big data mining. Specifically I developed scalable strategies to extract structured place, event and sentiment information from social media. In addition, I constructed methodologies to model and predict the popularity of online news. I was funded by a competitive PhD grant of the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT/VLAIO).

It enables a virality-driven production flow in commercial online news environments. Development: I developed a large-scale monitoring and analysis framework to track the popularity of news items and their interactions on social media in real-time. Research: I constructed novel methodologies which predict the news consumption and news sharing behavior by users.
