I'm currently an Analytical Chemist with the WaterSTP Group. Day-to-day, I maintain the group's wet chemistry lab and wrangle our instrumentation into working order. I analyze water samples from across Canada for water quality parameters including total organic carbon, chlorination disinfection by-products, and cyanotoxins. Reading, board gaming, baking cookies, running, and finding unreasonable distances to walk, run, or cycle are some of my alleged hobbies.
•Performing upkeep for instrumentation including P&T GC-ECD, LC-MS/MS, IC-MS/MS, LC-OCD-OND, and TOC analyzers •Analyzing water samples for an assortment of cyanotoxins by online LC-MS/MS and DBPs by GC-ECD •Conducting water quality parameter measurements and maintaining a database •Creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) to optimize lab procedures •Instructing and assisting students and staff with best practices for in-lab work
•Conducted measurements and tests on various products to confirm product quality •Issued certificates of analysis when product conformed to manufacturer specifications •Extensively documented and managed inventory of product retention samples •Maintained inventory of lab reagents, solvents, and other equipment •Streamlined calculation spreadsheets, retention records, and general workflow on lab computer
•Organized products and cleared aisles according to the store’s general display standards •Quickly picked up system used for product lookup, inventory tracking, and label printing •Greeted customers and attended to their questions and requests
•Sorted, processed, redirected, and delivered internal mail to a variety of government ministries and agencies •Compiled data and made suggestions for a Lean Six Sigma project for optimizing operational efficiency •Cleared a several months long backlog of undelivered and unaddressed mail in downtime from main work
