Mesothelioma and other dust diseases are unjust and unfair, and that’s what sparked my drive to right the wrongs of the past. I did a PhD on mesothelioma, and now, I work to enhance patient outcomes through clinical research, trials, and face-to-face treatment. At the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, I oversee the thoracic medical oncology service. I focus on treating people, not cancer, as I coordinate patient care and define treatment protocols. Although I wear multiple hats in this role, I take my responsibility for my team and patient outcomes very seriously. A deep listener who is highly empathetic, I bring real-world patient questions and concerns to the lab at the Asbestos Diseases Research Institute (ADRI). Backed by some of the brightest research minds, ADRI is a global leader in dust and asbestos-related disease research committed to improving prevention methods, diagnosis, and treatment. Logical and goal-orientated, I seek to solve problems with research, gaining first-hand information and using that to make a positive difference in patients’ lives. I am a uniquely positioned insider, meeting needs around both patient outcomes and lab understanding. I love to travel and, a clear communicator, am good with presentations. Cooperative and passionate about knowledge sharing, I negotiate readily to ensure everyone is working toward shared goals. I am always looking to connect with pharmaceutical companies and other researchers to collaborate with on clinical trials. So, if you are dedicated to improving patient outcomes like me, let’s connect.
Every year, 4,000 Australians lose their lives to dust diseases. As long as mesothelioma, silicosis and asbestos-related diseases threaten public health, we will be relentless in our mission to improve patient outcomes and leave a positive impact on people’s lives. Our research institute may be small, but with some of the best research minds in the country and global health leaders behind us, our ambition is large. Our passion and agility are backed by our status as a WHO Collaborating Centre for the Elimination of Asbestos Related Diseases. In the lab, we discover improved prevention methods, diagnosis, and treatment. Our pioneering molecular and biological techniques are scrutinised on blood and tissue specimens stored in the ADRI Biobank. Committed to making a genuine difference, we convert promising therapeutic approaches into clinical practice, provide patient support, and drive advocacy and community awareness. People are the heart of what we do and we will not rest until we find a cure for mesothelioma and address dust and asbestos-related diseases head on.
