• Developing an “Internet of Things” retrofit for electric water heaters, which promises to improve power grid stability and allow for increased integration of renewable energy sources. • Responsible for all aspects of design and test, including: circuit design and simulation, power electronics and thermal design, mechanical design, component selection, PCB layout, prototype assembly, and FPGA design. • Presently writing firmware and electrical testing. • Patent pending.
• Integrated a large FPGA project into a new proprietary build system, resulting in simplified HDL code maintenance and reuse. • Debugged Python source code. • Defined simulation and documentation build targets via Python scripts.
• Designed the upgrade of a power substation control building, including a complete replacement of all monitoring, control, and communications devices, resulting in improvements to remote monitoring and control capabilities and to overall system reliability. • Created new electrical drawings and updated existing drawings. • Designed a preliminary one-line diagram for a substation that will interface with the first grid-connected ocean wave power plant to be built in North America.
