About

Hi, I'm Steve Sandor, the Exitability Designer and Founder of Inspiring Business Many Family Business Owners feel pressured into their exit. Either by a family member pleading with them to ‘get out and sell up’; a health issue that is draining their energy, or just having done this for soooo long, “I’m working harder now than I’ve ever worked” This is known as Succession Fatigue The Owner-Optional Business by Design shifts the needle to - Autonomy before an Exit I created this concept based on decades of solving this very problem for myself and my clients. The outcome is your business becomes an asset that works for you, not the other way around. It’s based on the practical application of traditional management theory adapted to the nuances of your business, and backed by ‘real world’ experience Why do some Family Business Owners find it easy to be less involved in the day-to-day activities and others keep getting dragged back into the daily operations? Well, it’s simple, but not easy As a first step it requires an Owner-Optional Mindset ♦ Maintain control and be less controlling ♦ Be prepared for the emotional turmoil that comes with losing the ‘Business Identity’ ♦ Accepting that systems, processes and a culture of Collective Accountability is an essential part of the strategy This is one of three key processes in the Exitability Framework This ensures the business and the owner are re-energised at the opportunities an exiting owner creates for everyone Having worked intimately with Family Business Owners for the past 20 years these are the four current problems they want solved ❓ How can we attract the right staff? It’s harder to find and keep quality people ? ❓Building business efficiency with profit is more complex than ever ? ❓Will the adoption of AI be an advantage or a distraction ? ❓How to deal with the anxiety of separating from the business ? Succession Fatigue is real The outcomes that solve these problems are: ✅ To be known as an Employer of Choice so employees become your ‘recruiting ambassadors’ ✅ To create clear systems and processes (The non-negotiable foundations for value) ✅ To understand, map and document the processes in detail, BEFORE you decide which should be replaced with an AI Agent. ✅ To be in control increases confidence. With confidence comes independence Modern Management theory rarely translates directly to workable solutions Want to explore if this is right for you? You’ll find Inspiring Business is breaking the typical Family Business Advisor mould. Most cookie-cutter approaches have a hammer to solve your problem, even if the problem is not a nail. Most Family Business Owners prefer a highly personalised solution, that’s why I created the Exitability Framework, it focuses on detailing what’s important to you as you decide what’s your next business sequel. In 1986, Michael Gerber published the E-Myth “It's a myth that most people who start a small business are entrepreneurs, and in fact, they are just really good employees that get fed up and decide to go out on their own” I work with Family Business Owners who currently operate as an experienced and successful technician (with lots of employees) and are looking for a way to cash in on their decades of effort. The first step is to be sure, an exit is what they want. The next is a simple process of documenting their systems, processes, and locking in a culture with built-in flexibility to expand and contract to suit the situation. My mantra is to “Get your business ready for sale, so you don’t have to sell it, that way YOU DECIDE your next step on your terms”. I provide a number of services. • Management Consultant and Division Manager at Concept Group Ltd (PNG)
    Sep 2009 - Sep 2019 · 10 yrs 1 mo

Between 2009 and 2019 I worked in Papua New Guinea. Initially to assist a client to ‘corporatise’ their business. An owner with 30 staff. Over the next 2 year period, I was the internal consultant tasked with transforming a successful business run by one person, to an even more successful business, with a Collective Accountability across the whole team. I then worked as a Human resource and Management Consultant supporting large corporate clients with: Remuneration Benchmarking, Job Design and Analysis, Performance Management Programs, Employee Engagement Surveys, Organisational Design, Executive Recruiting, Executive Coaching, Leadership and Management Programs, Payroll Systems, Process Mapping and Systems Design. Between 2017 and 2019 I transitioned to a Line Manager with 2 organisations. It was in these roles that I was able to apply the ‘theory’ into a practical application of these principles. The principles worked. I led teams of between 30 and 120 employees, across 2 separate, very different industries, in a country that was extremely difficult to build trust and make a culturally significant impact. I can report that the theory works and it’s these same principles that I use in the Scale to Success Solution with my Inspiring Business clients.
