Working for Siemens, I lead the development of their national Connected Curriculum initiative. This initiative merges Siemens' latest Industry 4.0 technologies into learning materials for the Higher Education sector. Institutions are given the freedom to share and tailor industry tools, resources, and course materials to their teaching style. The initiative brings industrial hardware and software together into an off-the-shelf bundle that includes simulation environments, curriculum examples, case studies, and real-life problem-solving tutorials. It provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity for academia and industry to work together.
Working for Liverpool John Moores University, I lead the Advanced Manufacturing and Automation Catalyst Project in collaboration with the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry. This flagship engineering collaboration accelerates the transfer of knowledge and skills from cutting-edge research in intelligent automation and emerging Industry 4.0 technologies, into blended course content accessible by employees across the UK manufacturing sector.
Achievements and responsibilities: • Successfully opened and established the college’s flagship Centre for Science and Technology and developed sponsored technical facilities with Laing O’Rourke, FESTO, Siemens, Manchester University • Responsible for leading and developing all of the technical curriculum delivered at the centre including FE, HE, Part-Time, Apprenticeships and Commercial provision. • Established and grew key apprenticeship business with global companies including Siemens, Kellogg’s, Laing O’Rourke, Amazon, Manchester University, Thales, Balfour Beatty etc. • Achieved a growth in funding of nearly 20% over 4 years resulting in a directorate income of over £6.5M • Developed a sector-leading Degree Apprenticeship model with Siemens and Salford University, which includes the degree-level accreditation of Siemens own technical training • Successfully increased HE volumes by over 30% whilst driving up HE learner satisfaction rates to be placed joint first in the last National Student Survey poll published in 16/17 • Achieved Ofsted grade of Good across all areas at the most recent inspection (October 2017)
Achievements and responsibilities: • Designed, developed and launched an array of buildings and technical facilities including a state-of-the-art Construction Centre (October 2012) and STEM Discovery Centre (April 2013) • Achieved an Outstanding Ofsted grade in May 2010 • Developed both a collaborative Foundation Degree provision franchised by Wolverhampton University and an array of directly certificated BTEC HNC/HNDs • Developed HE curriculum which was particularly popular with employers across the region and highly acclaimed by QAA • Delivered an overall success rate which was 10% above the national average for this mix of curriculum.
