Generalist software developer, seeking to integrate all aspects of computers into my understanding and processes. I tend to find myself just on the Developer side of Dev/Ops and enjoy solving the puzzles that both face. Experience in several industries with different languages/environments/scales. I believe strongly in testing and documentation, both for code and for process. I believe you must keep the end in mind but code for today. I enjoy challenging myself and helping others succeed. I specialize in Go and Python and can operate in Ruby, Java, Shell, and many more languages. Recently wrote a Kubernetes Operator and have a lot of cluster management under my belt. I love all forms of testing and validation, especially BDD and Chaos-style testing. Promoting best practices is important to me, as well as mentorship.
Empowering internal development teams to manage their own services through mentorship, process improvements, and focused software projects. Building our SRE teams to meet our future challenges.
Developing a mature internal CI/CD system and extending it into the Kubernetes world. Previously supporting teams to increase their reliability and velocity by reducing repetitive toil and avoiding or reducing operational debt, also developing internal monitoring systems. Always applying a software engineer's mindset to global operational problems.
Jive has given me license to chase performance issues wherever they present themselves within the company, and humbled me with the experienced and hard-working peers on my team. Writing or integrating tools and automation into our ecosystem, compiling and reviewing statistical data on our products, and teaching others how our monitoring strategy works are all part of the job.
Riding the line between buy-vs-build in the support of metrics, monitoring, site reliability, and constant feedback to our engineering teams. Occasionally I write custom distributed systems when no off-the-shelf product fits the requirements, especially in pursuit of zero-downtime zero-loss connections between major components. When open-source tools do exist, I enjoy contributing my improvements back upstream.
Software development co-pilot to an excellent agile team. Programming, design, project management, technical documentation, client support, integration engineering, and bicycle advocate.
In charge of the development of internal and external web systems, both user-driven and automated. Maintenance and extension of existing Java web servers, specification and creation of Python web servers, management of various server bits in between.
