Responsible for managing engineering activities for Thermoset Composites Business Unit. Lead transformative improvement to existing legacy manufacturing processes. • Initiated and managed upgrade of plant wide process control systems (Allen Bradley). • Initiated and managed implementation of plant wide SCADA system (Ignition) • Designed and implemented automated intermediate chemical processing system. • Provided Six Sigma problem solving expertise for customer related quality and product performance issues. • Manufacturing project lead for green field manufacturing facility. o Responsible for funding requests, approvals and spending for all manufacturing equipment expenditures for new facility. o Designed process layout for new facility. o Developed specifications, quoted and purchased all new processing equipment for facility. o Project lead and interface to general contractor on building design of all manufacturing spaces. • Provided direction and assistance for engineering activities for global composites manufacturing sites. • Supported plant objectives for safety, quality, and cost.
Directed global manufacturing engineering team for Remy original equipment (OE) group. Directed engineering standards, bill of equipment and bill of process (recipe), as well as new product launch activity and invention of new processes and equipment. • Led development project for high-performance alternator that yielded 24.5% reduction in manufacturing cost and 34% reduction in manufacturing footprint. • Spearheaded VAVE cost savings project that resulted in 37% reduction in material cost for high-performance alternators, with annual savings of $870K. • Championed plant-based Six Sigma project for major customer complaint of “noisy” starter motors, developing test method to identify issues that reduced Decibel (DBa) level for defective motors.
Oversaw budget of $19.7M and staff of 154 engineers, technicians, and operations personnel in prototype and sample builds, product testing and validation, and high-performance motor / generator production. • Installed and brought online 5 high torque motor / generator Dynes with associated test methods, resulting in 225% increase in high-performance motor / generator testing and validation capability. • Directed successful registration of product launch center for TS16949, designating facility a manufacturing site for high-performance motor / generators. • Provided key support as satellite facility for Mexico and Brazil OE manufacturing operations for Shingo Award; Mexico received Silver and Brazil received Bronze, and application was subsequently developed for Shingo Award for Product Launch Center.
Led implementation of corporate programs worldwide. • Spearheaded manufacturing system for Remy’s first “2-mode hybrid” motor / generator for GM Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade. • Managed introduction of new HD alternator for Daimler and Isuzu in Europe, which was the first successful programs at Daimler and led to significant future business. • Co-managed successful completion of 100,000 square foot manufacturing site in San Luis Potosi, MX, bringing facility to production-ready status for heavy and light duty starting motor manufacturing operations.
