Selected Highlights; ► Selected by members of the senior executive team to help improve the HSE structure, culture, reduce incidents & injuries, and consolidate and improve HSE processes from legacy operations. ► During period from 2013 to 2016, supported organization through period of rapid growth across Canada and USA with 4 acquisitions, 2 start-ups and establishment of a US corporate office. During same period, company’s overall safety performance improved from an incident rate of 4.0 to 1.6. ► Led the current state HSE assessment, including team, structure, processes and performance within the organization before leading the development and implementation of a newly developed HSE management and training systems capable of supporting needs of a rapidly growing business. ► Secured essential buy-in from key influencers needed to develop a unified HSE vision and roadmap, and affected significant organizational change by ensuring HSE behaviours were embraced within the organization at all levels and aligned with the culture. ► Developed processes and systems to help gain access to additional markets. Received the Oil and Gas Award in Dallas Texas in 2015 for the “Award of Excellence in Health and Safety” (Operational Category); resulting from building stronger safety systems.
The BC Forest Safety Council is a not-for-profit health and safety organization for the BC Forest and Lumber Manufacturing industry providing Health & Safety Programs, Faller Certification, Training Programs and Support for Fatalities and Serious Injuries, and administers the Provincial Certificate of Recognition program for the sector. Selected Highlights; ► Accepted a wide-ranging mandate to deliver significant organizational improvement. Fulfilled roles as a key member of the Senior Management Team, Director of Training & Development, and Director of SAFE Companies – Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program. ► Restructured the organization and key departments; recruiting personnel with industry experience; and leading an advocacy program for fatalities and serious injuries across the BC Forest Sector. Re-engaged industry in their workspace with a focus on in-field activities. ► Implemented a field based audit which helped to improve credibility with industry. Re-developed the COR – Certificate of Recognition audit program for the Forestry sector in BC with full industry support. Led the Certification, Training and COR program across BC for the Forest Sector. ► Developed new safety programs and revised COR audit tools for industry. Developed and implemented injury management campaigns.
Western Forest Products had 2100 employees and 1000 contractors operating in a high-risk industry. The company had multiple operating areas across BC (Timberlands and Lumber Manufacturing Mills) ⋆ Note: Initially recruited to MacMillan Bloedel (1989-2001) and retained employment through three separate acquisitions spanning Weyerhaeuser (2001-2004), Cascadia Forest Products (2004-2006), and Western Forest Products (2006-2009). Selected Highlights; ► Executed the safety strategy, and collaborated with operational leaders on developing and setting measurable safety objectives and goals for their performance targets. ► Mentored and coached operational leaders in safety leadership and culture change, and implemented a consistent process for incident investigations. ► Led the implementation of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program across all the Coastal Timberlands Operations. Achieved COR Certification for the company which resulted in an annualized net 15% reduction on employer WSBC premiums.
