Four-time award winner Dr Stephen Asbury is the author of eight books for Taylor & Francis (Routledge and CRC Press) on auditing, decision-making, and HSE management. He had a prominent 40-year international career in safety and risk management leading assignments in >60 countries on six continents. E: [email protected] X: @Stephen_Asbury Stephen founded consulting group CRS in 1999 and was its Managing Director for 15 years prior to its sale to Henderson Insurance Brokers (now Aon) in 2014. He founded AllSafe Group in 2017. Stephen was a statutory director of IOSH (1998-2003) and IOSH Services Limited (2004-08), a member of IOSH Council (1998-2012), and chaired several IOSH standing committees, including Professional Committee (1998-2013). Stephen played a critical role in securing the award of IOSH’s Royal Charter in 2003, and in securing permission for IOSH to grant a personal Charter to competent members from 2005. He was the IOSH-appointed judge at the London 2012 Olympics HSE Awards in 2009 and 2010. Stephen has an MBA with Distinction (Leicester, 1995). He is a Chartered Safety and Health Professional (CFIOSH), a Fellow of ISEP (formerly IEMA) and an Emeritus Professional of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). He completed his doctorate in London in 2021. Amongst his awards, Stephen was a RoSPA Safety Practitioner of the Year in 1995 and was awarded the IOSH President's Distinguished Service Certificate in 2010. AllSafe Group Limited was the second HSE company founded by Stephen Asbury. Starting in 2017, it provided consultancy and training services to global clients including FTSE100 logistics co., Ecopetrol (Colombian energy giant), Kinetic (innovative vehicles), PetroSkills, Renault Sport F1 Team, and the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco). From 2020, it specialised in blended and distance learning including IOSH Managing Safely and Internal Auditor Training (IATC). Following the retirement of the directors, the company was dissolved via voluntary strike-off on 18 November 2025.
In 2017, Stephen returned to the PetroSkills family as Course Director for its HSE classes, and as a technical instructor, after a years' absence arising from a restrictive covenant following the sale of his company, CRS. Stephen was PetroSkills' Technical Discipline Manager for HSE, and the Course Director for Basic and Applied Safety, Basic and Applied HSE Management, and 'SHE Auditing - A Management Systems Approach'. The HSE discipline was the best-performing technical discipline in terms of client and participant feedback (QP score) within PetroSkills between 2011 and 2015.
