About

I'm the founder of 406 Technical Services, where I serve as a technology broker, advisor, and consultant — helping both businesses and community members make smart, confident tech decisions. Before 406TS, I spent 30+ years as a network and site reliability engineer for Fortune-100 telecom providers — most recently as Senior Lead SRE at Lumen Technologies, where I was a key contributor to migrating the NOC from eyes-on-glass monitoring to full auto-ticketing (IBM Netcool rule redesign), and served as Tier 4 network SME across 30+ global datacenters. Through my partnership with OTG Consulting, I have access to hundreds of vetted technology providers, including top names in AI, cloud, voice, connectivity, and cybersecurity. This allows me to offer vendor-neutral advice that's tailored to each client's needs — not someone else's sales quota. I'm also still hands-on: recent projects include redesigning a failing Starlink mesh network for a 9-building rural resort (worst link went from 6 Mbps to 25–268 Mbps) and building the Python monitoring service that watches it, and writing a parser for an undocumented SonicWall config format with Claude Code. 📍 Based in Montana — serving clients nationwide 📅 Book a free consult - https://www.406techservices.com/booking.html Let's connect if you're launching new tech initiatives, hiring for an SRE/network engineering role, or just want a second opinion from someone who's on your side.

Experience

    Jun 2024 - Present · 2 yrs 2 mos

At 406 Technical Services, I help organizations navigate critical technology decisions — advising on internet connectivity, telecom solutions, cloud strategy, and infrastructure design, all with vendor-neutral insight backed by the OTG Consulting ecosystem. • Redesigned a failing Starlink mesh network for a 9-building rural resort — worst link went from 6 Mbps to 25–268 Mbps; built and deployed a Python/gRPC monitoring service on Oracle Cloud with automated alerting • Discovered an active PCI DSS violation (full card numbers stored in legacy POS readers) during a restaurant/casino network audit; notified the client of the finding • Wrote a parser for SonicWall's undocumented .exp config format using Claude Code — decodes 8 config sections into structured JSON with firmware-to-firmware diffing • Ongoing IT and network support for nonprofit and small-business clients across Montana

  • Lumen Technologies (8 yrs)
    • Senior Lead Site Reliability Engineer
      Feb 2023 - Apr 2024 · 1 yr 3 mos

In this role, my most significant accomplishment was a project supporting the network operations centers migration from eyes on glass monitoring to full auto-ticketing by specifying changes to IBM Netcool rule sets. I really enjoyed the analysis portion where I had to review the alarm and event stream from the network elements and determine what was actionable or could be correlated into a single actionable alert ticket. Due to my background in networking, I served as the resident expert on all things networking for the SRE team. • Agile methodology with Jira for project management • Extensive analysis using MS Excel and PowerBI/PowerQuery/MySQL
