About

I am a computer scientist, bioengineer, and systems biologist with 30 years of experience in both academia medicine and healthcare industry. Currently I serve as the Director of the TT & WF Chao Center for BRAIN, Associate Director of Houston Methodist Cancer Center, Chief Research Information Officer, and John S Dunn Sr. Presidential Distinguished Chair in Biomedical Engineering at Houston Methodist, as well as a Professor of Weill Cornell Medical College and Texas A&M University. My research investigates and applies systems biology, medical imaging, digital medicine, drug discovery, and bioinformatics to understand the cause and find cures for cancer and neurodegeneration. I founded Department of Systems Medicine and Bioengineering, the T.T. and W.F. Chao Center for BRAIN, Center for Cancer Modeling Development, Translational Biophotonics Lab, advanced cellular and tissue microscopy core, Houston Methodist Cancer Center shared resources, and data warehouse and digital therapeutics program at Houston Methodist. Previously, I was a professor at UCSF and Harvard Medical School, handling major medical information and imaging system research, design and implementation at UCSF, Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, directing integrated product development for Philips Healthcare and electronic brokerage technology for Charles Schwab where I produced an electronic platform for web trading, researching in artificial intelligence at the Japanese Fifth Generation Computer Systems Project (ICOT) and semiconductor automation at Bell Labs and Hewlett Packard. My academic research has been consistently funded by NIH, DOD, and Foundations for more than two decades. My research has led to several commercial products and clinical trials. I hold a Ph.D. from Lehigh University in Computer Science and a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering with honors from the University of Western Australia. I am a registered professional engineer in U.S. and obtained senior executive education from Stanford Graduate School of Business, MIT Sloan School of Management, and Columbia Business School. I dedicate 2nd half of my life in solving disease problems after dotcom.
