The English language inspires me. My favorite aspect of the subject is working and learning with others to further grasp the language's complexities. My passion has driven me to sucessfully pursue a Bachelor of Arts in English as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching through the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s 4+1 program. I aspire to teach English full-time at the middle or high school level because that is where my teachers first ignited my passion for English and I strive to instruct with the enthusiasm, mindfulness and connectedness I was so lucky to receive. I am currently honing my teaching and SEL skills at Camp Shriver, an inclusive summer camp serving children with and without disabilities. I have also strengthened my educational skills as a tutor at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s Writing and Multiliteracy Center, as a substitute teacher for Quincy Public Schools as well as completing pre-practicum experiences virtually for a 7th grade classroom at Normandin Middle School in New Bedford, MA and in-person in a junior-level Language Arts classroom at Durfee High School in Fall River, MA.
Supervise and engage closely with children (ages 8-12) in order to promote Social Emotional Learning, positive relationships, physical activity and inclusive access to all aspects of the camp. Assist, mentor and build meaningful relationships alongside children with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. Foster environment where all campers’ individual skills and abilities are able to excel.
Uphold an orderly classroom, manage classroom activities from elementary school to high school level, closely abide by teacher lesson plans and guidelines to facilitate a fulfilling classroom experience for all students.
